Don’t fear what you don’t know Take that part of you and let it go It won’t make any difference To a mind of substance I don’t know what you think you’ve done You think you’re right, but I know you’re wrong Don’t test me once cause I’ll say Go ahead and just go away (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) Go ahead and just go away (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) You stole my love (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) You’ll regret it someday (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) What is fair on this day Who said life’s fair anyway When people lie and people steal People cheat for a cheap feel Tell the truth the way it should be Not your version of the story Don’t test me twice cause I’ll say (I guess I had it wrong…) Go ahead and just go away (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) Go ahead and just go away (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) You stole my love (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) You’ll regret it someday (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) I give but you take (You take it from me) I give but you take (You take it from me) I give but you take (You take it from me) My heart it won’t break, no Go ahead and just go away (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) Go ahead and just go away (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) You stole my love (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!) You’ll regret it someday (Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little, live, laugh, love!)

about

In Matt Cook’s new single “Go Ahead (Live, Laugh, Love!),” the first release from his upcoming “Live, Laugh, Love!” album, he reflects on personal battles in both life and relationships, including recognizing that you, “Gotta live a little, gotta laugh a little, gotta love a little.” While Cook became known for his folky, feel-good California sound and namesake ballads, he continues to transition into a more sophisticated indie/alternative/electro sound, and with good reason.

Cook first began writing this song after waking up from a life-threatening coma in which he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Ironically, the track comes to life immediately, with vibrant piano and drums, an infectiously catchy bass line, sparkling synthesizers and guitars, and angelic vocal harmonies. The lyrics stem from the frustration of dealing with a disease that takes and takes, but never goes away: “What is fair on this day?...Go ahead and just go away.”

“You stole my love” encompasses a love for music and life. Because of the dire way in which Cook was diagnosed, the disease not only nearly robbed him of his young life, but also for a time stole his voice. As an artist, it was scary to not know if it would ever come back, as well as the freedom to go about his days like a normal person.

“Tell the truth the way it should be/Not your version of the story” is a call to those who have wronged him, but by now, life literally goes on. By the end of the song, the artist has a new zest for life as he admits, “My heart, it won’t break,” and he acknowledges that you have to, “Live, Laugh, Love!” That’s what makes the world go round.

The first piece of Matt Cook's "Live, Laugh, Love!" puzzle has arrived, and it doesn't disappoint.
