Awake At Dusk

I place an envelope of letters in the mailbox You’ll never get them they’ll be swallowed by a lost art When misdirection is a country you are choosing And darkness is the brightest image you are seeing You’ll act aware as if you know all your surroundings While caught in crossfire or sunken by the drownings Of people living off the company you’re choosing The silence settles in the wind that isn’t moving And we will all awake at dusk And we will all awake at dusk When love is not enough to wake you up My mind’s a canvas paint a wife of many ranges She’ll remain nameless with a face that always changes Suddenly I can see I’m not the one you wanted You made an ending for a life that never started And we will all awake at dusk And we will all awake at dusk Put your faith in those who trust When love is not enough to wake you up And we will all awake at dusk And we will all awake at dusk Put your faith in those who trust When love is not enough to wake you up Just put your faith in all of those who trust

Breathe in all your words Exhale when it hurts Feel all that’s lost You know it’s not your fault Soak yourself in all of your anger It’s good to mourn in all of the lessons We learned so long ago We learned when we were young

about

In this two-song EP from Matt Cook, a new sound emerges, one that's richer and more sophisticated in both sound and content. Cook hones a larger variety of instruments and sounds since his previous albums.

The first song, “Awake At Dusk,” follows a dreamer who longs for a” life that never started.” This latest single emanates a feel of longing for a love that traps you between slumber and being awake. The combination of upbeat piano combined with haunting background vocals blend perfectly in this independent movie-themed song.

In "Lessons Learned," we follow the same dreamer, only to realize that chasing a love that never started taught the dreamer a lesson. Heartbreak can only go hand-in-hand with regret if one has not learned something from the experience. “Feel all that’s lost, when you know it’s not your fault,” sings the dreamer. This second song takes on more of Cook’s namesake ballads, slower paced, yet full of emotion.

While both catchy in nature, both songs go hand-in-hand, and come full circle, delivering a theme of love and the lengths one takes in the journey to find it.
